Vinyl tarps recovered from billboards. Three-ply material with a mesh scrim between the layers, waterproof, with a UV-protective face. 7 mil thick — a regular blue hardware store tarp is about 5 mil with no scrim.

Why these outlast a blue tarp
The mesh core is the difference. A blue poly tarp tears from the grommet out the first time a corner gets loose in the wind. These have a woven scrim laminated between the vinyl layers, so a puncture stays a puncture instead of becoming a rip across the whole sheet. They were engineered to hang beside a highway for months.
What people use them for
Hay covers, weed barrier, pond liner, boat and car covers, carports, firewood, roofing, lean-to shelters, yurts and tepees, and art projects. The 14×48 is 672 square feet of waterproof sheet for $95, which is hard to beat for any of the above.
One thing to know
They are printed on one side — that is what they were. Most people run the printed side down. If it is going somewhere visible, plan on that.

How thick are billboard tarps compared to regular tarps?
These are 7 mil thick, 3-ply, with a mesh scrim between the layers. A standard blue hardware-store tarp is around 5 mil and has no scrim. These last years longer under UV and wind.
What can you use billboard tarps for?
Hay covers, weed barrier, pond liner, boat and car covers, carports, firewood covers, roofing, lean-to shelters, yurts and tepees, and art projects. Anywhere you need a big waterproof sheet that will not shred in a season.
Are billboard tarps waterproof?
