Boxcar flooring is the decking pulled out of antique rail freight cars — rock maple and oak, 2.25 inches thick, 12 inches wide. A very limited number of those cars are still in existence, and when a load comes through it does not last long.
Boxcar is on sale right now. 8ft boards are $200 each, 9ft boards are $240 each, in rock maple or oak. Sold by the board only. The sale runs until supplies run out.
What makes it different from other reclaimed wood
Thickness. Most reclaimed flooring is three-quarters of an inch and needs a substrate. At 2.25 inches, a single boxcar board is a finished countertop with no lamination and no plywood underneath. The wear is real — freight moved across these boards for decades, and the surface carries the dents, grain lift, and darkened patina that come with that.
What people build with it
Kitchen island tops, bar tops, coffee tables, workbenches, and heavy floating shelves. We have built more than a few boxcar countertops in our own shop — the material takes an oil finish beautifully and the end grain on a live-edge cut is worth showing.
Before you come
Call ahead at 720-236-0454 to confirm what is on the rack. Boards are sold whole, so bring a vehicle that can take a 9-foot plank, and bring straps.
FIG. 027.QQuestions
Boxcar Flooring — common questions
What is boxcar flooring?
Boxcar flooring is the heavy plank decking pulled from antique rail freight cars. Ours is rock maple or oak, 2.25 inches thick, and carries decades of wear from freight moving across it. Very few of these cars still exist.
How much does boxcar flooring cost in Denver?
Boxcar flooring at Revolve Reclaimed is $200 for an 8ft board and $240 for a 9ft board. Boards are 12in wide and 2.25in thick, sold by the board only.
What can you build with boxcar flooring?
It is thick enough for table tops, countertops, bar tops, coffee tables, and heavy shelving. At 2.25in you do not need to laminate anything — a single board is a finished top.
Do you cut boxcar flooring to size?
We sell it by the full board. Bring a saw or a plan — we do not cut boards down on site.
