What COR-TEN actually is
COR-TEN is a weathering steel alloy. Instead of rusting through the way ordinary steel does, it forms a tight oxide layer on the surface that seals the metal underneath and arrests further corrosion. So it looks completely rusted and stays structurally sound. That is the whole trick, and it is why architects specify it.
Why these beat corrugated tin
They are flat, rigid, and free of nail holes. Corrugated tin is thin, dents if you look at it, and is generally perforated with old fastener holes. These can be welded, cut, and formed into whatever shape you are after — and every panel has its own patina from its own years inside a power plant.
