The most requested thing we build. A single reclaimed beam, cut to your firebox, floated on hidden steel so no hardware shows.
Choosing the beam
Hand-hewn barn beams carry the axe-scalloped face and the mortise pockets — the classic look, and the one most people picture. Reclaimed fir is straighter and cleaner if the room is more contemporary. The 1911 Union Station fir is for when the provenance matters as much as the piece.
Floating it
The bracket bolts into studs or masonry, steel rods project out, and matching holes get drilled into the back of the beam. Done right, nothing is visible from any angle in the room. We sell the brackets too.
What to bring us
Firebox opening width, the height you want the mantel to sit, and a photo of the surround. That is enough to pull stock and cut it.
